Video: What Is the Salvation Army? (It's Two Things at Once) | WYDE.org Explainer
You know the red kettles and the bells. But the Salvation Army is bigger than you think, and it's two things at once. The Salvation Army is both an evangelical Christian church, founded in London in 1865, and one of the largest social-service organizations in the country, serving anyone in need without discrimination. It helps more than 27 million people a year in the US, operating in nearly every ZIP code. What does it actually do? Food for the hungry, emergency and transitional shelter, disaster relief, addiction and rehabilitation programs, youth and after-school programs, and support for veterans. Those iconic red kettles, the Christmas bell-ringing campaign going since 1891, fund these programs all year, and the money stays in the community where it's raised. Its famous thrift stores help fund its rehabilitation centers. Quietly, everywhere, it's "doing the most good." Causes like these are what WYDE exists to support. WYDE is a new platform building a way for causes to be funded continuously and governed by their own members. ▶ Support the Salvation Army: https://www.salvationarmyusa.org ▶ Watch next: "What Is United Way?" + "What Is the Red Cross?" The Salvation Army is referenced for educational purposes; this video implies no affiliation or endorsement. WYDE is the Impact Exchange where causes go public and become member-governed; a cause coin is a governance token, not an investment. salvation army, what is the salvation army, red kettle, salvation army explained, what does the salvation army do, salvation army church, disaster relief, homeless shelter, addiction rehabilitation, charity, doing the most good, WYDE, EAT, nonprofits, give back, social impact, charity explained, thrift store charity, future of giving, faith based charity
