Richard Levy
A 1960 Dartmouth graduate and former chief executive of Varian Medical Systems who gave Dartmouth Health $20 million in 2026 to launch at-home care and a Family Caregiver Institute.
Donor, Dartmouth Health
Background
Richard Levy, known as Dick Levy, graduated from Dartmouth College in 1960 and earned a doctorate in nuclear chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1964. He was chief executive of Varian Medical Systems from 1999 to 2006 and chairman of its board from 2002 until February 2014.
Levy has become a major supporter of health care delivery work at Dartmouth. In 2020 he and his wife, Susan, gave $1 million to start the Susan and Richard Levy Health Care Delivery Incubator, a joint Dartmouth College and Dartmouth Health effort to test new models of care for the seriously ill. In September 2026 he gave Dartmouth Health $20 million to launch Dartmouth Health at Home and a Family Caregiver Institute. The gift grew out of the years he spent as his wife's primary caregiver after she was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia; she died in 2023.
