W. Dean Weidner was the founder, owner and chairman of Weidner Apartment Homes, which he built into a 74,667-unit apartment portfolio across 14 US states and four Canadian provinces, one of North America's largest privately held multifamily firms.
Weidner died on March 17, 2026, at the age of 83. In September 2026 his estate gave EvergreenHealth $100 million, the largest gift in that community-owned hospital system's history, to plan a new patient-care tower. He and his wife, Ana Weidner, who died in 2024, had supported EvergreenHealth projects since 2019.
