MoonPay and WisdomTree Will Let US Investors Buy a $1.2 Billion Tokenized Fund With Stablecoins

    Key Takeaways

    • WisdomTree and MoonPay announced a partnership on September 17, 2026 to widen US access to WTGXX, a $1.2 billion tokenized money market fund.

    • Eligible US investors will be able to buy WTGXX with stablecoins through MoonPay's rails, a feature the companies say goes live this year, reaching MoonPay's more than 35 million accounts.

    • MoonPay will also hold WTGXX inside its own stablecoin reserve strategy, tying a regulated Treasury fund directly to stablecoin operations.

WisdomTree and MoonPay said on September 17 they will let everyday US investors buy a tokenized money market fund using stablecoins. Per Cointelegraph, eligible investors will be able to purchase WTGXX, WisdomTree's roughly $1.2 billion tokenized Treasury fund, through MoonPay Institutional and MoonPay Trade, with the feature due to go live this year. The deal gives WisdomTree a path to MoonPay's more than 35 million accounts.

WTGXX is not exotic under the hood. It holds cash, short-term Treasuries, Treasury-backed repos, and government money market funds, the same plumbing behind a traditional cash fund, wrapped as a token that can move onchain. The second half of the deal is quieter but bigger. MoonPay will use WTGXX inside its stablecoin reserve management, which puts a regulated, yield-bearing Treasury fund at the center of how a major crypto payments firm backs its dollars.

The timing is not an accident. Days earlier the SEC cleared a path for tokenized securities trading, and the tokenization push keeps widening. We saw the institutional side when Broadridge opened its US wealth platform to tokenized assets and when Nasdaq invested $100 million in Kraken parent Payward to expand tokenized stocks. This one aims lower and wider, at the person who just wants to park dollars and earn yield without leaving a crypto app.
